Agua nuestra…

As a result of Plan Timor-Lesteâs Right to Clean Water and Sanitation programme, Ludivina, 9, her sister Pasquela, 7, and brother Cipriano, 6, no longer have to walk an hour on multiple occasions per day to collect unclean water. The children from a village in Aileu District used to spend considerable time and effort undertaking a dangerous journey to visit the local river. Now, they have much more time to play and concentrate on their educations. The easy access to water has also meant that the family has been able to expand their vegetable garden from which produce can be eaten and sold to create an income. Many children in rural Timor-Leste become sick because they do not have access to safe drinking water and do not understand why good hygiene is important. Through the Right to Clean Water and Sanitation project, Plan is working in schools and communities to raise awareness about good hygiene practices and increase access to child-friendly toilets and safe water.

Gota de agua
que contienes
las bendiciones
para que yo,
un caminante
de la Tierra
comprenda
que en ti,
mora mi existencia.

Manantial diáfano,
sereno y fresco,
vivificante…
Regalo para mí,
y para cada
peregrino que
llega a calmar
la sed, de la sequía
que se avecina.

Agua mía,
tuya, y de cada Ser
que mora en el planeta.
Sin costo alguno,
porque la Vida
que eres,
no se ha de comprar
para explotarte
sin consciencia.

Agua nuestra,
tu transparencia
no es compatible
con la miseria.
Tu composición
sanadora,
jamás ha de ser
posesión
para enriquecer

a una parcela
que te roba.
Agua que venden
ahora,
con el sello
de purificadora.
Vertiente sagrada
que naces,
para fertilizar

a la Vida.
Agua viva,
creada para todos…
Gota fresca,
Creación que humecta
en equilibrio,
a cada Ser,
que con respeto
llega a ti.
